BANGOR (AP) – Clinton “Huggy” Dye, a former University of Maine basketball player, has been indicted on two counts of drug trafficking.
Dye, 27, of Bangor, was accused of selling cocaine in March and April 2005. He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 31 in Penobscot County Superior Court. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 on each count.
A Danville, Ill., native, Dye was a key member of the UMaine team for three seasons prior to his dismissal in October 2001 for assaulting his girlfriend. He pleaded guilty a month later and was ordered to serve two days in jail and one year of probation.
A 6-foot-2 guard, Dye ranked third on the team in scoring during the 2000-2001 season with 13.3 points per game and led the Black Bears with 58 3-pointers. At the close of his career at Orono, he ranked 16th in scoring with 1,076 points.
