On July 31, the Sun Journal published a grotesque picture of a dead baby that was staged. The newspaper was used to get public opinion on the side of the terrorists.

It was an Associated Press photo which was part of a series of pictures with the same “rescue person” parading the baby for photographers for more than one hour. I found out about that by visiting a blog on the Web. It contained material tracking the picture-taking and the dead baby being paraded for 1 hours, and a young girl for more than three hours for photo purposes. Sick people.

We want facts and fair news from the paper. The Sun Journal editorial staff should clarify the background of that photo so the public can fairly evaluate. At the same time, editors might review the policy of publishing such gross pictures.

Was that another pushing of the edge of what readers will tolerate?

Put me on the side of “Do not publish.”

Editor’s note: The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse strongly deny the images were staged. According to the AP, “Following a news event like this, the AP does not distribute pictures sequentially; photos are moved based on news value and how quickly they are available for an editor to transmit.” In a separate instance, according to Reuters, it has withdrawn 920 photos from its database, all taken by the same freelance Lebanese photographer, after “an urgent review of his work showed he had altered two images from the conflict between Israel and the armed group Hizbollah.” The photos in question do not include the one of the dead child referenced above.
