TORONTO (AP) – Richard Gasquet upset fifth-seeded James Blake 6-4, 6-3 Wednesday in the second round of the Rogers Cup.
The unseeded Gasquet dominated the No. 6-ranked Blake, who had 29 unforced errors. Gasquet, ranked 51st, needed only 72 minutes to put away his opponent.
In other matches, Jose Acasuso rallied to eliminate seventh-seeded Tommy Robredo 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Fernando Gonzalez defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-2, 6-1, Carlos Moya beat Denis Gremelmayr 6-1, 6-4 and Xavier Malisse topped Paradorn Srichaphan 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Moya, ranked 49th, is one of the most experienced players in the field, having won 19 ATP championships. He has one title this season. Gonzalez, ranked 16th, is looking for his first title this year.
Gremelmayr didn’t make it through qualifying last week but replaced eighth-seeded Radek Stepanek, who withdrew Tuesday because of a shoulder injury.
Top-ranked Roger Federer was to play Sebastien Grosjean later Wednesday, while No. 2 Rafael Nadal was to face Hung-Taik Lee.
