NEWPORT (AP) – Police are investigating the death of a Connecticut woman who jumped out of a pickup truck while it was moving at 50 miles per hour on a state highway.

Laura Vertefeuille, 34, of Dayville was riding in the truck driven by her boyfriend at about 7 p.m. Monday when they had an argument over money, said Police Chief Leonard Macdaid.

The woman then grabbed her pocketbook and jumped from the vehicle as it sped along Route 7, apparently not realizing how dangerous the jump was, Macdaid said.

The woman died as she was being flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Macdaid said the woman’s death was an accident, and that alcohol was not a factor.

Police said Vertefeuille and her boyfriend, 40-year-old Anthony Pierce of Dayville, were in Maine because they had recently bought a camp together in Athens. Dayville is about 48 miles east of Hartford, Conn.
