LEWISTON – A convicted sexual predator was sentenced to another 333 days in jail Wednesday after admitting that he viewed Internet pornography in violation of probation.
Jeremy McCown, 24, of Ferry Road in Lewiston was described as a dangerous sexual predator as he was sent back to jail two years after he was first accused of luring junior high girls off Lewiston streets.
His latest legal problems began in June when police said they found pornography on McCown’s home computer. He had been prohibited from viewing such material due to previous convictions.
In court Wednesday, McCown pleaded guilty to possessing adult pornography. Police and prosecutors are still investigating allegations that the 24-year-old was viewing child pornography as well.
“This guy is very predatory,” said Mike Simoneau, a sex offender specialist and McCown’s probation officer. “He’s very, very dangerous.”
A graduate of Lewiston High School, McCown was arrested in 2003 after luring young girls to his car as they made their way to Lewiston Middle School.
Police said he yanked one of the young teenagers into his car, fondled her and made sexual comments before dropping her off in front of the school.
He was convicted of two counts of assault and one of criminal restraint. He spent less than six months in jail before he was released.
A condition of his probation was that he could not have any direct or indirect contact with girls under 18.
McCown was arrested a year later for allegedly violating that term by attempting to look up the skirts of three teenage girls who were shopping at Wal-Mart.
A court justice ruled in that case that the state did not present enough evidence to prove that McCown was looking up the girls’ skirts. But the judge did find McCown in violation of his probation for the simple fact that he had been spotted on several occasions wandering the store with no obvious purpose. He was sent back to jail and later released.
McCown has been listed on the state’s Sex Offender Registry since his first conviction. After pleading guilty to violating probation on Wednesday, McCown was ordered to remain listed there for 10 years. If other charges are brought, the court could order him to remain on the registry for the rest of his life.
