Dedication

NEW GLOUCESTER – U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe, R-Me, will attend the dedication of the Snowe House at the Opportunity Farm for Girls and Boys at 11 a.m. today.

The Snowe House is the second house opened at Opportunity Farm for girls and is named after Sen. Snowe. She will speak at the ceremony at 11:25, with a reception and tours of the house to follow the dedication.

Farmers’ market

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Farmers’ Market will note Downtown Appreciation Day from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Kennedy Park near the corner of Bates and Pine streets.

The market’s third season offers locally-grown produce, baked goods, cooking demonstrations, free recipes and food samples, and booths with information on health and wellness.

Look good

LEWISTON – “Look Good … Feel Better,” the American Cancer Society’s program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment, will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center, 12 High Street, Suite 103.

Kayak lessons

LEWISTON – Basic sea kayaking will be taught by H2O Fitters and members of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Club W! from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. The $65 fee will include kayak, skirt, paddle, life-jacket and wet suit rental.

In the morning, instructors will show kayaking basics, followed by a lunch break. In the afternoon, participants will paddle the Orr’s Island shoreline. Those attending should bring drinking water, hat, sunglasses with strap, sunscreen, bathing suit, water footwear, fleece jacket or a shell and a set of dry clothing.
