Family Fun Day

HARTFORD – The Hartford Recreation Committee will hold a free family fun day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Hartford Beach.

Residents are invited to bring a picnic lunch, chairs and guests. Among the games will be family and individual swimming relays for novice/intermediate/advanced, horseshoes, volleyball and water basketball. Prizes will be available.

Volunteers are needed to help with scorekeeping, stopwatch, coaching, refreshments and donations. Anyone wishing to donate prizes is welcome to do so.

Handicapped access to the beach can be obtained by contacting the town office.

The beach closes at 9 p.m. daily and camp fires, stoves or the like are illegal. No dogs are allowed. For more information on this and other Hartford Recreation Committee events, contact Arlene Nason at 224-7355, June Davis at 388-2426 or Elizabeth Gravalos at 388-2860.

Diabetes program

NORWAY – The Diabetes Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Stephens Memorial Hospital’s Harper Conference Center in the lower level of the Ripley Medical Building next door to the hospital. Topic will be “Fun with Food.”

Auction set

BETHEL – A Chinese auction, fundraiser for Ciao Italia, will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at Telstar High School. Doors will open at 3 p.m. There will be toys, antiques, gift certificates, raffle tickets, food and beverages.

Grange supper

OXFORD – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Oxford Grange 46. Menu will include smothered beef, vegetable and pies. Cost for adults is $7 and children under 12, $3.50.

Blood drive

PARIS – A Maine Medical Center blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the South Paris Legion Hall, Church Street. Call Marilyn Ramsay at 743-5723 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

Firearms safety

OXFORD – The Lake Thompson Fish and Game Club will sponsor a firearms hunter safety course at the clubhouse on the Paine Road, East Oxford. The course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25; from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26; and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27.

Students must attend all sessions. The course covers safe gun handling, marksmanship, hunter responsibility and ethics, land owner relations, game laws, tree stand safety and other related subjects.
