TOPSHAM – Flying Changes Center for Therapeutic Riding will host an Epona “Way of the Horse” workshop, presented by Epona-approved advanced instructors Carol Roush and Shelley Rosenberg, on Saturday through Monday, Aug. 19 to 21.

It is an introductory-level workshop and it meets the Epona prerequisite for individuals wishing to do advanced work at Epona, including the apprenticeship program.

The workshop is designed to improve horse/human relationships, strengthen connection to the intuitive authentic self and bring awareness to old survival patterns of behavior that block a natural desire to move from surviving to thriving.

Cost is $750, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Flying Changes Center. Registration/workshop details are available at www.flyingchanges.org or contact center Director Barbara Doughty at [email protected].

A “Horses as Healers” workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the center. Rosenberg will present the daylong workshop for therapists and others interested in trauma and healing from trauma.

Rosenberg will speak about her soon-to-be published book, “My Horses, My Healers.” An overview of the trauma of sexual abuse will be given by therapists Drs. Nancy Coyne and Whitney Houghton. Dr. Annie Rogers and Mary Louise Gould have been invited to participate.

Barbara Doughty will discuss her work at Flying Changes Center with traumatized children and the evolution of her understanding of horses as teachers and healers.

Demonstration and practice with horses in the round pen will explore the ways horses can interact with humans and teach them about themselves and relationships, specifically about boundary setting, assertiveness, safety, authenticity and respect.

Cost will be $25 for Way of the Horse participants and $75 for the Horses as Healers day only. It includes lunch and dinner. Contact Doughty [email protected].
