BANGOR (AP) – An investigation is ongoing into the death of a 57-year-old woman whose body was found floating in the Penobscot River.

The body of Faye Williams Murray of Hampden was discovered Thursday afternoon at the city docks near where the Kenduskeag Stream flows into the river, said Bangor police Lt. Tim Reid.

An autopsy was performed Friday, but the medical examiner’s office is awaiting results of toxicology tests before making a ruling on the death, Reid said.

Police believe the body had been in the water less than a day. “At this point we’re trying to determine how she ended up in the river.”

“That question hasn’t been answered yet,” he said.
