CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Prosecutors say the suspect in a string of burglaries had 112 criminal convictions – nearly 20 of which were for burglary.

Concord City Prosecutor Scott Murray gave the accounting at 45-year-old Joseph Foote’s arraignment Friday on new burglary charges. Murray said Foote’s past could mean 10-to-30 years in prison for each of two charges he faces of receiving stolen property.

“I don’t know why they had to bring up all this past history,” Foote said.

Judge Michael Sullivan didn’t agree. “I conclude that you’re a career criminal,” said Sullivan. “The evidence is certainly pointing in your direction.”

Sullivan set bail at $300,000 in cash.

A tip from a Nashua woman whose neighbors were burglarized nearly 20 years ago led police to Foote’s arrest. Foote was arrested Thursday and charged with several counts of receiving stolen property. He’s accused of breaking into nine homes this summer and stealing credit cards and cash while the homeowners slept.
