OTISFIELD – Grab a pair of walking boots and hop on a tractor.

The local Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine chapter will hold its annual field day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, President Bill Haynes said.

The event is open to the public and will include walking and tractor-drawn wagon tours of the woodlot, discussions of forest care applications on the woodlands and equipment demonstrations such as a tractor with a winch, a forwarding trailer and a firewood processor.

An old iron windmill and a cistern will be available for viewing during the tour.

The event will be held at Rich and Beth Merk’s Applewood Farm, 216 Forrest Edwards Road. Coffee and doughnuts will be available at 8:30.

This is the first time the event has been held at the 122-acre farm, which has a view of the lakes and mountains. It is part of the original 800-acre Forrest Edwards farm in the southeast corner of Otisfield.
