RUMFORD – Dale Milford Dyke, 60, of Somerset Street, Rumford, died Sunday, Aug. 13, at his residence, after a long illness.

He was born in Farmington, on Aug. 17, 1945, the son of Milford and Thelma (Butterfield) Dyke. He graduated from Wilton Academy and Farmington State College. He loved teaching and taught for 32 years in the Rumford school system and was a teaching principal for eight of those years at Bisbee School.

After his retirement from teaching, he volunteered for several years at the Seniors-Plus Meal Site in Rumford and at GRAMPS meal site in Mexico. His favorite place to be was at Dummer’s Beach in Weld. He spent summers there and worked on the campground for over 40 years.

He enjoyed traveling around Maine, and spending time with his wife in Ogunquit. In recent years, he loved his almost daily trips to McDonalds for his french fries and out for rides in the car. He was a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church.

He was married in Rumford on April 13, 1968, to Karen Chaffin, who died in Rumford on Dec. 18, 1996, and in 1999, he married Patricia Lewis, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include a daughter, Dena Mari Dyke of Rumford; a sister, Cynthia Osgood and husband, Thornton, of East Dixfield; nephews, Kelly Osgood and wife, Sandra, of North Jay and Kim Osgood and wife, Darrah, of Clifton Park, N.Y.; stepdaughters, Julie Dorset of Kansas City, Mo. and Jennifer Metcalf of Brookline, N.H.; a stepson, Jay Merrill of Biddeford; and stepgrandchildren, Robyn, Cricket and Joey Metcalf and Caleb Dorset.

The family would like to thank all of Dale’s caregivers, Becky, the Debs, Ann, hospice nurses, Tammy and Marie and all the others that gave him such loving care.
