BREWER – Hazel Kelley McCourt, 96, formerly of Dryden, died Friday, Aug. 11, at the Brewer Rehabilitation & Living Center, where she had been a resident for the past few weeks.
She was born, April 28, 1910, in Vienna, a daughter of Edwin and Sadie (Clement) Kelley. She attended Vienna schools.
On Oct. 16, 1937, she married, Cecil S. McCourt in Dexter. They made their home in Dryden for nearly 40 years as she served as the Postmaster, owned and operated the Pelican Restaurant and Hazel’s Gift Shop in Wilton. Upon her retirement she and her husband moved to Vienna for 10 years and later to Norway. She had most recently been a resident at the Rumford Community Home.
She was a member of the Rebekahs and the Wilton Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Cram and her husband, Benjamin, of Crystal River, Fla. and Elizabeth Clark and her husband, Stephen, of Holden; four grandchildren, Kenneth Cram and his wife, Claire, of Wilton, Stephen Clark Jr. of Stratton, David Clark of Bangor and Donna Davis and her husband, Michael, of Scituate, Mass.; five great-grandchildren, Mark Davis, Rebecca Lyons, Karen Cram, Abigail and Benjamin Clark; four great-great-grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Davis and Samantha and Jesse Lyons; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil on Nov. 26, 1994; three brothers, Maurice “Tom,” Harold and Herbert Kelley; and two sisters, Doris Trask and Mildred Duley.
