BANGOR (AP) – Former Maine law school dean Donald Zillman is being recommended to serve as president of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Maine System chancellor announced Tuesday.

Terrence MacTaggart said he is recommending that Zillman be appointed to a two-year term. The system’s board of trustees will vote on the recommendation on Sept. 10.

Zillman is now a law professor at the Maine School of Law in Portland, where he served as dean from 1991 to 1998. He also served as interim provost at the University of Maine in 1999-2000 and as interim president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2001-2002.

The former UMPI president, Karl Burgher, left the position last week after a year on the job. Faculty members called for his ouster last spring following a no-confidence vote.

Zillman is scheduled to visit the campus next week with MacTaggart and Margaret Weston, chairwoman of the board of trustees.
