BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Farmers’ Market held the first Farmers’ Market Festival on July 22 at the Bridgton Community Center, Depot Street.
Jim Harrington of Checkmate Acres in Denmark brought his collection of restored antique tractors and answered questions about the workhorses of the past. A demonstration was presented by the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Bridgton.
An exhibit of posters designed by Maine artists celebrating local farms was sponsored by the Eat Smart Eat Local Project of the Western Mountains Alliance and the Maine Alternative Agriculture Association. For more information about the display, those interested may call Paula Day at Maine Alternative Agriculture, 696-8044.
The Farmers’ Market Festival is the brainchild of Donna Fournier of Meadowsweet Lamb and Herb Farm in Denmark. Julee Applegarth, manager of Rippling Waters Farm, an organic farm in Standish, created the posters and promotional materials used to promote the festival.
Farmers provided demonstrations and samples in addition to vegetables, baked goods, cut flowers, plants and specialty items.
The Farmers’ Market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays in the green space on Depot Street. For more information, call 452-2772.
