Joe Lieberman’s recent defeat is not a referendum on the war in Iraq. Rather the vote demonstrates dissatisfaction with Lieberman’s support of Bush’s policies: Roberts, Alito, tax cuts for the rich and the Bush administration’s illegal and impeachable crimes.
The war on terror is an issue – it is an ill-conceived and executed war. Invading Afghanistan has produced no positive results, Osama bin Laden is still at large, and terrorism is still a threat. The invasion of Iraq has done nothing but increase terrorism.
What the Democrats need to do in the fall is push for the impeachment of Cheney and Bush for crimes outlined in John Conyers’ recent report alleging high crimes against the Constitution and the people of the United States.
It has been reported that the Bush administration is planning an attack on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and they plan to make tax cuts permanent after the fall elections.
Like Joe Lieberman, Sen. Snowe would also help the Bush administration with those goals.
The Republican party has become the enemy of the people, the Constitution and democracy. Republicans are at fault for everything that has gone wrong in the past six years, as well as high crimes for which they must answer.
A start would be to remove them from power in the House and Senate. Then Bush and Cheney could be impeached and removed from office.
