MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) – A brief look at Thursday’s first round of the PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club:
Leading: Lucas Glover and Chris Riley, who both shot 66 on the par-72 course.
Just behind: Billy Andrade shot a 67, while Davis Love III heads a group of six players two shots back at 68.
Where’s Tiger?: Tiger Woods had a 69, the same score as Phil Mickelson. The two top players in the world played in the same group with U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, who also shot 69.
Record lows: A total of 60 players broke par of 72, a record for any round in the PGA Championship. Twenty players shot in the 60s, while the course average was 72.7.
Whiff: Davis Love III was 7-under and on his way to the first round lead when he whiffed a chip on the 17th hole, made a triple-bogey and finished at 68.
Notable: It was the first time since the 2001 Masters that Woods and Mickelson had played together in a major championship.
