CANAAN (AP) – The state police dive team Friday searched Black Stream as they sought clues leading to a woman who disappeared last month.

State police detectives determined that Shirley Moon Atwood, 35, was missing while investigating the discovery of a body believed to be that of Cheryl Murdoch, 37, of Waterville.

Black Stream, which was searched by eight members of the dive team, is located near the Atwood home on Route 23, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. The dive team wrapped up at noon without finding anything unusual.

“We’re looking for any clues that could lead to Shirley Atwood’s whereabouts,” McCausland said. “We need to eliminate that area before we move on to other areas.”
