Early last spring, I, too, had a peculiar canine cross in front of me on my way to work. The critter I witnessed was nearly identical to the one found dead in Turner recently. It had the same blocky muzzle, same coarse fur, similar size and weight, except it was light brown in color. That was just below Summit Springs Golf Course in Poland.
If there are two of these animals, there are probably more.
An exotic import or hybrid gone wild?
I’d like to see the state step up and identify the critter. I’ve hunted in Maine 35 years and never saw a coyote that looked like that. If it is some sort of exotic animal, what inherent health risks might there be to our own native species. It wouldn’t be the first time an import had devastating effects on our natural surroundings, .i.e., zebra mussels, milfoil, pike, etc.
It’s not just a curiosity factor, but a possible health and safety issue.
I’m no authority, but if there are two, there are likely more. These animals had to have been whelped from something. It certainly is an evil-looking creature.
Until I find out more though, just to be safe, I’m going to buy some silver bullets. I hear that it’s the only sure thing that will kill a werewolf. Wait! What color was the car that killed that thing? Silver?
