RUMFORD – Harold M. Gill, 80, of Auburn Road, West Peru, died Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Rumford Hospital.
He was born in West Peru on April 4, 1926, a son of Duncan and Lucille (Vaughn) Gill, and had attended schools in West Peru and Rumford, Maine.
During World War II he served as a Tech 4th Grade in the U.S. Army, Company “C” 20th Infantry Regiment, overseas in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippines, including the Battle of Luzon.
Harold had worked at Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford for over 40 years until retirement from the Unloading Crew.
He enjoyed watching his favorite T.V. programs and doing crossword puzzles.
He was married in Macon, Ga., on Mar. 17, 1945, to the former Georgette Theberge, of West Peru, who survives him. Other survivors include sons, Peter Gill and his wife, Marie-Estelle of Sabattus, Harold R. Gill and his wife, Ann Marie of Lyndeborough, N.H.; brothers, Kenneth Gill and wife, Beatrice of West Peru, Robert Gill and wife, Ruth “Midge” of Rumford; sisters, Marion Wyman and her husband, Alden of Smithfield, and Jean Worthley and her husband, Richard, of West Peru; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
