AUBURN – Police are alerting residents, school officials and others that a convicted sex offender has moved to the city.

Police said 37-year-old Orlando Deperez has moved to the Bass Motel on Washington Street after he was released from prison on sex charges.

Considered a risk to reoffend, Deperez was sent to prison in 1997 after a conviction for gross sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl. In 2002, he was sent away after he was convicted of unlawful sexual contact with a 17-year-old.

Deperez has been under strict probation conditions since his release. Police are reminding people that it is a crime to harass or threaten a registered sex offender. They are, however, asking that people report any suspicious behavior on the part of Deperez by phoning 784-7332.
