FRYEBURG – A Massachusetts man was killed early Wednesday morning, after his car struck a pine tree on the side of Route 302, said officer Richard Murray of the Fryeburg police.

Murray said Thomas Quigley, 36, of Wakefield, was traveling north in his green 1991 Nissan pickup truck at 3:15 a.m. when he lost control of it, crossed the center line into the southbound lane and went into the tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Murray said.

He was not wearing a seat belt, Murray said, but added that a seat belt probably would not have saved him.

Quigley was visiting his wife, who works at a campground in Maine. He was heading home to Massachusetts when the accident occurred, Murray said.
