The deep roar of big-block engines revving in the parking lot of Taber’s Driving Range in Auburn periodically drowned out the sound of Elvis, Pat Boone and Chubby Checker being played during Saturday night’s first-ever Taber’s Flashback Sock Hop. A section of the parking lot was roped off as a dance floor for anyone wishing to join in the fun. Event organizer Sheena Peillet planned the event after learning the Skate Lewiston-Auburn Movement was $10,000 short of its goal in raising money for the nearly completed skate park in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park. There were prizes for best-dressed, food, music, games and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the cause. Judging from Saturday’s crowd, the hop could well become a yearly event, Peillet said.
