ORONO – Caitlin Quinn netted the game-winning goal in double overtime to give Fairfield the 2-1 advantage over Maine in college field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

Quinn picked up the ball from Emily Janis and scored on an odd-man rush to the net. Courtney O’Connor tallied the first Fairfield (1-1) goal off a penalty corner. Elizabeth Thomas made 12 saves to preserve the win.

While Maine out-shot Fairfield 24-11, they could only slip one past Thomas, when Nicole Emery scored on a pass from Amy Zdrojesky in the first half of the contest.

Northeastern 2, Maine 1

ORONO – Ahmed Talaat tapped a loose ball into the right corner of the net to tally the late second half game-winning goal for the 2-1 Northeastern win over Maine in mens’ soccer Tuesday.

Alexander Volk netted the first goal of the game at 27:50 to give the Huskies (2-0) a 1-0 lead, before Phillp Reed responded, scoring the only Black Bear (0-3) goal from a shot taken 15 yards out.

Maine was outshot by the Huskies 15-7. Mahmoud Talaat stopped three shots for the Northeastern win, while Giacomo Brunino made six saves for the Maine effort. Black Bears’ Jason Jacobe picked up two yellows cards in the contest.
