Lewiston – Maurice Shiffer, 93, of Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center, formerly of 27 Laurel Ave., Auburn, died there Monday, Aug. 28.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 16, 1913, the son of Harry Shiffer and Leah Hyman Shiffer. He graduated from Edward Little High School and in 1934 from Bates College.

He was married June 7, 1938, to Reta Solway, who predeceased him Feb. 26, 2000. He was employed as office manager at Shapiro Brothers Shoe Co. and later at Crest Shoe Co. prior to his retirement.

He was a member of Beth Abraham Synagogue, where he served as treasurer for many years. He was a violinist in a local symphony during his high school years and enjoyed stamp collecting.

He is survived by a son, Irwin Shiffer, and his wife, Susan, of Hillsborough, N.J.; a grandson, Aaron Shiffer, and his wife, Desiré, of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Jacqueline Lelyveld, and husband, Edward, of San Francisco, Calif.
