AUBURN – Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn, a parent/child music and movement program, has announce the schedule starting the week of Sept. 18. Classes will be offered at 9 and 10:15 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays at the United Methodist Church and from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturdays at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Additional classes will be added as necessary.
The goal of Music Together is to develop every child’s opportunity for basic music competence by encouraging music experience rather than learning information about music.
Families are encouraged to attend class together, so younger and older children in the same family can learn music and movement activities to enjoy at home. Classes are geared toward children ranging in age from birth to age 4.
In a class, 12 children and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions.
Each semester is based on a collection of 30 songs through which the elements of music such as melody, harmony and rhythm are explored. Each family receives the collection of songs on recordings and in an illustrated songbook as part of the registration fee.
Adults and children sit in the circle and participate, led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills. Children have the opportunity to play instruments and improvise and dance to different styles of music.
