GROTON, Conn. (AP) – Police searched Wednesday morning for clues about the identity of a newborn found alone in a car.
Police said the hours-old baby boy was in good condition when they found him near Dewey and Highland avenues.
The boy, who was wrapped in a towel and placed in a box, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. The hospital expects to give the baby to the Department of Children and Families. Police did not know how long he had been in the car.
Someone called 911 around 5 a.m. to report a baby was crying in an abandoned Nissan at the former Navy Lodge. The car had flat tires and had been in the lot for at least a couple of years.
Police said they were concerned about the mother’s health and planned to canvas the neighborhood in an attempt to identify the baby.
