AUBURN – John L. Hagan, 71, of River Road, Bowdoinham died in Auburn on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice of complications from a stroke.

He was born in Norwood, Mass. on Jan. 28, 1935, a son of Adoniram and Evelyn Murray Hagan.

On July 2, 1955, he married Lynne Tardiff.

He served in the U.S. Navy before spending most of his career with Greyhound Bus Lines.

At a young age, he recognized his love for starting business ventures. Among them, he built Sunset Gardens Mobile Home Park and established Brunswick Taxi Service. In later years, he worked as the safety director for Maine Line Tours.

He was a 50-year member of the Masons.

He enjoyed rebuilding old Studebakers, was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and enjoyed showing them at fairs and antique car shows throughout the region.

He is survived by his companion, Carlyn Tome of Bowdoinham; two sons, John Hagan and his wife, Cindy, of Maryland and Marc Hagan and his wife, Betsy, of Topsham; two daughters, Jill Annese of Topsham, and Debra Bennett and her husband, James, of Lewiston; and eight grandchildren who he adored.
