LIVERMORE – The Board of Selectpersons set the tax rate at $13.80 at a special meeting Thursday night. The rate is unchanged from last year.

Bills will be mailed Friday, Sept. 8, with payments due Nov. 15 and April 16.

On Monday, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub advised selectpersons that because less revenue is expected from Augusta, taxes may have to be raised slightly. John Wakefield, with agreement from the rest of the board, asked Schaub to re-examine the tax rate calculation to see if there was surplus money in any account that could be used to offset the decreased revenue.

On Thursday, Schaub said there is $55,000 in the school/ministerial fund, which is used for education. The minimum required in the fund is $15,000, he said.

Schaub said that state law allows selectpersons, the town clerk and treasurer to allocate the funds, and they did, taking $20,000 out to offset property taxes. It allowed the tax rate to remain at the 2005-2006 level.

The town contracts with a Portland firm to calculate its bills, print and mail them.
