LIVERMORE FALLS – Mary Catherine Riordan, 87, a resident of Park Street in Livermore Falls, died Thursday, Aug. 31, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 10, 1919, in Launching, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of Daniel G. and Lucy (Morrison) MacCormick.

She attended local schools and the Prince of Wales College. On Jan. 26, 1944, she married Joseph G. Riordan at St. Dunstan’s Basilica, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Mr. Riordan passed away on April 1, 2003.

She taught school for a short time before moving to East Livermore in 1945. She was a local writer for the Kennebec Journal newspaper for several years and a dealer in antiques and collectibles. She was a member of the East Livermore Extension and a former member of the Maple Lane Golf Club in Livermore. She was also a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Michael & Megan Riordan of Newton, Mass., Kevin & Theresa Riordan of Fresno, Calif., and Vincent & Beth Riordan of Dothan, Ala.; three daughters, Jane Westberry of Livermore Falls, Margaret Riordan of Livermore Falls with whom she made her home, Kathleen Collins of Phoenix, Ariz.; a foster daughter, Lita Blanchard of Winthrop; a sister, Catherine O’Reilly; and brothers, Michael and Vincent MacCormick; as well as 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a very dear friend, Aleta Ames of East Livermore.

She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Hugh Riordan; a daughter, Sheila Pierce; a brother, Joseph D. MacCormick; a step-grandson, Dory Riordan; sister-in-law, Shirley MacCormick; and brother-in-law, John O’Reilly.
