I am writing to let area readers know how fortunate we are to have Nancy Smith as our representative in the Legislature. Smith, a Monmouth dairy farmer, represents the residents of Monmouth, Litchfield and Wales.

After retiring to Florida, I returned to my home state last spring looking for a restaurant to run with my grandson, Kyle. Finding the former Curley’s Restaurant on Main Street in Monmouth for sale, I bought it.

We opened the Rain Forest Restaurant on July 7, only to close two weeks later because we didn’t meet all state health and safety requirements. Several state agencies were involved. We didn’t know what to do next, when a friend suggested contacting Rep. Nancy Smith for her help.

Rep. Smith immediately got into gear contacting the proper officials, even arranging and participating in a three-way meeting with state health inspectors to work out exactly which requirements we had to meet.

Thanks to her knowledge of state government, understanding of what it takes to run a small business, and willingness to help her constituents, we are once again open for business.
