JAY – Androscoggin Bank is holding a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for its new full-service bank at the Jay Plaza on Route 4.

The one-story bank with a community room will be built south of McDonald’s Restaurant on a new lot that is about 40,000 square feet established in the Jay Community Development Park subdivision.

Androscoggin Bank leaders and other representatives will be joined by Jay town officials and construction manager representatives from Platz Associates for the ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the new site.

The bank will be accessed through the plaza lot, which also includes Hannaford supermarket.

Bank officials proposed building a 3,360-square-foot building last year and received approvals from Jay Planning Board and selectmen for the project.

The proposal called for the bank lot to be landscaped and included some benches and green space. Employees of the bank will move from a smaller branch on Riley Road in Jay to the new site next year.

Completion date for the project is early spring 2007, bank spokesman David Norburg said.
