AUBURN – Police and firefighters from around Androscoggin County will converge on Festival Plaza Sept. 11 to commemorate the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The event includes a memorial ceremony beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a patriotic concert at 7 p.m.
The memorial ceremony will include emergency service and public safety officers from Lewiston, Auburn, Androscoggin County, Turner, Minot, Durham and New Gloucester, speeches by Gov. John Baldacci and municipal officials. Auburn Police Officer Nate Westleigh will perform two songs on the bagpipes during the ceremony.
The concert will feature music by the Fanfare Concert Band, a 33-piece band from central Maine.
Everyone is invited; bring your own chair.
A possible rain date has been scheduled for Sept. 12.
