Rug braiding
MEXICO – A rug-braiding class will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Mexico Congregational Church (the Green Church). It will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. for eight weeks. Blacksmith meet
WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Wilton Historical Society. A program is planned. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call Bill Reid at 778-2325.
Opening dance
PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will open its season with square and round dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street.
Scott Williams of Auburn will call mainstream and plus for the square dancing. Carol Stewart of Augusta will cue the round dancing. Refreshments will be served at intermission.
All who are interested in learning to square dance are welcome.
The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club is one of about 15 clubs in Maine.
It has been active in the South Paris area for more than 40 years and has held monthly dances of square dancing and round dancing on the second Saturday of each month.
A beginners’ class will be offered through adult education at the Oxford Hills Middle School starting in September. Workshops for more experienced dancers are also held every Wednesday evening while school is in session.

Tres Dias meal
DIXFIELD – A Tres Dias potluck gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Dixfield Congregational Church, High Street. Those participating are asked to bring notes for candidates and teams. For more information, call 364-8083.
