FALMOUTH – Deborah Day Bornstein died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 31, at her home in Falmouth.

She was the daughter of Frances and Herbert Miller and lived most of her life in the Lewiston area. After graduating from Boston University and majoring in art history, she returned to Maine. Later that year she entered her first of many business ventures with the establishment of the Mill Fabric Store in Lisbon.

She met her first husband, Charles Saben and married in 1976. He joined her with the management of the fabric store in Lisbon. She opened stores in Lewiston, Augusta and finally expanding the business in to Portland market. They had two children, David and Leah Saben.

When her children were grown, she moved to Boston to attend cooking school. In late 2003, after completing cooking school she was drawn to New York, where she met Mark Bornstein and the two were married.

She assisted him in the design of women shoes, where her remarkable sense of style, color and design was the envy of the industry. After her mothers’ death last year, she decided to return to Maine and reside in Falmouth.

She will be remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother whose kindness and loving nature will be remembered and cherished forever, accomplished business owner, and a multi-talented designer. She was a remarkably stylish dresser who loved to travel all over the world and had a keen eye for colors and trends. She loved literature and poetry.

She is survived by her children, David and Leah Saben; her grandson, Andre Eady; her father, Herbert Miller; her husband, Mark Bornstein; and Aunt Phyllis Shapiro. She will be greatly missed and dearly loved forever by everyone she touched.
