Help, tools needed in Paris to install playground pieces

PARIS – The New Balance Foundation recently donated a playground to the town of Paris, and the two pieces, valued at more than $30,000, will be installed by volunteer community members at Moore Park, South Paris, on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The Paris Department of Parks and Recreation is taking the lead in recruiting volunteers and supplies from the community for the playground installation.

Community members are being asked to aid in the installation of the playground from 7 a.m. to at least 5 p.m. Community members will build and erect the playground by hand, under the aid of a representative from the playground manufacturer.

Many have signed up to help, but a few more volunteers are still needed. Sign up by calling Kelsey E. Jewell, Paris recreation director, 743-2501, ext. 107.

Supplies are also needed for the installation. Remaining needs consist of steel digging bars, drift punches, lumber scraps, pitchforks, wheelbarrows, Allen wrench sets, open-ended wrench sets, tape measures, tin snips, carpenter levels, nail pouches, extension cords and garden hose.

Tools and supplies will need to arrive the day before the build, at the least. Anyone willing to donate them for the day is asked to call Jewell. Everyone should bring a hammer and safety goggles, if they have them.

Businesses are still being solicited for assistance and asked to provide an associate or two to provide help on installation day. Contact Jewell for more information.

It is recommended that children not be brought to the installation location on Sept. 12. Installation will take place rain or shine.
