Once again, tax issues in Maine are standing in the way of major economic development. If allowed to go forward, helping Cabela’s locate in Maine would create many good-paying jobs in a state that needs them. It would provide much-needed revenue in sales and income taxes.

It’s not fair to other companies who have to fleece their Maine-based customers for mail and Internet orders. The tax flies in the face of what I was taught in school, where no state shall levy any taxes on goods coming in from other states.

L.L.Bean says it welcomes the competition, so why is it lobbying so hard to keep Cabela’s out? The truth is, L.L. Bean can’t compete in most areas unless it drastically lowers prices.
