Lewiston – Roland A. Gulliver, 82, of Union Street in Auburn, died Friday, Sept. 1, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y. Jan. 12, 1924, a son of Vincent and Hilda (Gholson) Gulliver. He was educated in New York City schools and moved to this community in the 1950s and has been a resident ever since.
He worked 27 years at General Electric until his retirement. He was a longtime and very active member of the LA Church of God and participated in their music ministry. He was an experienced musician, having played the guitar and other instruments since he was a young man. He especially enjoyed jazz music and was known as a bass guitar player. He was a member of several jazz clubs and spent the last number of years playing in a jazz group just about every Friday evening at Graziano’s Restaurant in Lisbon.
He always had a big appetite, loved to eat homecooking and enjoyed spending time with friends and fellow church members, who were like family to him. He was a kind man and will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves two sisters, Carol Orange and Louise Rawlings and a brother, Malvin Kelliehan, all of the Bronx, N.Y.; 12 nieces and nephews; and his many friends and extended family at his church.
He was predeceased by a sister, Aylene Gulliver.
