togus – Frank Arthur Edwin Leino, 79, of Harrison. After enduring several years of poor health he succumbed to cancer on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center.

He was born in Harrison on Aug. 4, 1927, the ninth child of John and Hilda Kangas Leino. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 15, 1950. He served in the U.S. Headquarters Company, 373 Transportation Unit, as a clerk. That was identified as serving in the New Jersey Port area. He was discharged as a Private-E2.

He spent his working life as a woodsman. He worked in Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut. He retired in 1989, to the family farm in Harrison to live with his brother Walter and sister Martha to enjoy a quiet country life.

He is survived by brothers, Bruno and wife, Ruth, Henry and wife, Miriam, Harold and wife, Helen and Walter; his sisters, Lempi Heath, Lila Butterfield and husband, Lesley, Eila Makey and husband, John, Martha Leino and sister-in-law, Avis Leino; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Helmi; and four brothers, Arne, Matti, Lauri and Eugene.
