AUBURN – Cecile R. Gilbert, 73, of Lewiston, died Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn, due to complications from cancer and a recent stroke.
She was born on April 29, 1933, in Lewiston, the daughter of Claude and Irene (Lacasse) Dufour.
She attended Lewiston schools and on Nov. 18, 1955, married Normand E. Gilbert. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
She spent many years as a homemaker and mother, and later worked at Paragon Glass Works in Lewiston. She was most proud of her work as a CNA, working at both the Marcotte Nursing Home and the Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation, caring for elderly patients.
She loved to cook and enjoyed working in her flower garden. Family time, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, was very special to her. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, handing out presents at Christmas time and treats on Halloween.
She is survived by her husband, Normand E. Gilbert, of Lewiston; a daughter, Linda and her companion, Charlie Harkins, of Weld; sons, Marc and his wife, Diane, of New Gloucester, Paul and his wife, Deborah, of New Gloucester, Peter and his wife, Tammy, of Auburn and Steven of Greene; brothers, Raymond Dufour of Sabattus, Lucien Dufour and his wife, Joline, of Leeds, Jerry Dufour and his wife, Ina, of Washington State, Robert Dufour of New Hampshire, and Donald Dufour of Waterville.
Her grandchildren include Clifford, Andrew, Abigail, Ryan, Brittany, Eric, Brad, Ashley, Colby and Alexander Gilbert and Chelsea, Chas, Geriann, Amanda, Angela and Charles Harkins IV. She also leaves behind a special friend, Rita Bosse, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a sister, Dorothy, of Brockton, Mass.
