LEWISTON – A Twin Cities reading program this fall will feature “The World is Flat” by New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman.

The book is about the changes taking place in the global economy due to advances in communications over the past several years.

“Thomas Friedman is the canary in the mine for the greater Lewiston-Auburn region. In arguing that 21st-century technology and communications shrink our world, tighten competition and place new value on education, his book has important implications for our workforce, our economy and our future prosperity,” College for ME – Androscoggin Steering Committee Chairwoman Jan Phillips said in a prepared statement.

The book was chosen for a special fall edition of L-A Reads One Book, a program designed to promote reading and build community. The Lewiston and Auburn public libraries and College for ME – Androscoggin are collaborating on the Friedman project.

Other partners are Andover College, Bates College, Central Maine Community College, Lewiston-Auburn College, Auburn Adult Education, Lewiston Adult Education, Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, Gleason Radio Group and the Sun Journal.
