NEWTON, N.H. (AP) – A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to trying to smuggle nearly 1,600 lbs. of marijuana into the state.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors have agreed to recommend a five-year prison sentence for John Bannon, 55, of Rowley, Mass.

Federal agents discovered the drugs in a truckload of pottery being shipped from Mexico when the trailer was X-rayed in Texas.

Bannon is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30 in Concord.
