OES celebration

MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 474 South Main St.

The program will be “A Fall Splash,” a celebration of fall, welcoming back all from the summer break. The meeting will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. supper. All members of the order are invited.

Selling ads

AUBURN – The Edward Little High School Oracle staff will be asking Lewiston and Auburn businesses for their support on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Each year the Oracle staff offers advertising space in the “Friends” section of the yearbook to help offset the cost of yearbook production. This year the staff has decided to double their efforts by having an ad sales day where they will go from businesses to businesses asking for their support while offering advertisement space.

The yearbook will offer a variety of advertisement sizes. Those who are not contacted on Sept. 14 and would like to place an advertisement in this year’s 2007 yearbook should contact the Oracle adviser, Sarah Raymond, at 783-8528.

Exercise classes

LEWISTON – HealthSteps at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has announced its Exercise for People with Arthritis class will be offered from 9:30 to 10:15a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept, 12 to Oct. 12, at a cost of $22.

The course is designed for individuals with rheumatic disease who are limited by impaired joint motion and/or strength.

HealthSteps class

LEWISTON – HealthSteps at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has announced its fall session.

HealthSteps has a wide range of classes with the core membership fee, including step aerobics, TNT (Tone N Tighten), Balance Ball Blast, dance aerobics, abs and stretch, Time to Stretch, walk/jog classes (using the Bates College indoor track) and aquatic fitness, plus scheduled times to swim laps

All core classes are held in the Bates College Merrill Gym and classes run from Sept. 11 through Dec. 20. The cost of a core membership is $108.

Speaker on aging

LEWISTON – Joanne Seifert, RN C CHPN, director of education for Beacon Hospice Inc., will be the speaker at the Thursday, Sept. 14, session of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Successful Aging Series.

Seifart will provide an overview of the Deep Harbors program, a new program developed by Beacon Hospice to help address the needs of end-stage dementia patients and their families.

The focus of the Deep Harbors program is to provide improved quality of life for patients and education and support for family members and caregivers. The presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Resident Dining Room at D’Youville Pavillion, 102 Campus Ave. The session is free and open to the public. Seniors speaker

LEWISTON – The Rev. Daniel Greenleaf, pastor of Holy Cross Church, will be the speaker at the first Seniors meeting of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, in the church hall. He will address the changes that will happen as the churches begin to work together to evangelize and meet the spiritual needs of the faithful.

All seniors are invited to attend. A question and answer period will follow. A social time will complement the afternoon and a light lunch will be served.

VFW meeting

LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary, Route 196, will have meetings at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19. All members are encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome. Agenda items will include the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Program.

Civil War topic

TURNER – The Turner Historical Museum will present Elaine Gilbert Bonney as the speaker at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, on the first floor meeting room in the old Leavitt Institute building.

Bonney will speak on the Civil War. She will give a presentation on her family members and on her great-great-uncle, Arad Gilbert, who is buried in the Turner Center Cemetery. A meeting will follow. New members are welcome.

Apple Saturdays

NEW GLOUCESTER – Orchard walks will be features of the eighth annual Apple Saturdays at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village on Route 26 on Sept. 23, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. Cost is adults, $6.50; children, $2; under 6, free. Reservations are required by calling 926-4597.

Beading class

LEWISTON – A cabochon-beading class will be offered by Club 50 on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 18 to 27.

A supply kit will be provided by instructor Doris Forgues. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Club 50 Room next to Campus Cuisine on the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center campus. Space is limited; register by Thusday, Sept. 14, at 753-5467. The class costs $33.
