Society to meet
PERU – The Peru Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Rockemeka Grange Hall. Marlin Thurston of Peru will be the guest speaker. Members are requested to bring light refreshments to share. The public is invited.

Benefit supper
RUMFORD – A spaghetti supper will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Rumford Elks Lodge 862 to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Walk.
The walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Hosmer Field Complex. Dick Welch will prepare the meal and donate proceeds to the walk.
The meal prices are $6 adults and $3 for children under 10. Takeouts are available. Organizers ask the public to support the walk. For more information, call Dick or Sandee Welch at 364-2548.
Harvest dance
RUMFORD – A harvest dance will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Eagles Hall. Noel Palmer and Don Lesveque will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. The dance is to benefit the St. Athansius and St. John Youth Ministry. Tickets will be $8 each, or $15 a couple.
Lobster roll meal
DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Congregational Church will have a lobster roll supper from 5 p.m. until sold out Thursday, Sept. 14, at the church on High Street. There will be chicken rolls for those who do not want lobster. Lobster roll dinners will be $7.50 and the chicken rolls $5. Takeouts will be available. To order ahead, call 562-4582.

RUMFORD – The women of the Class of 1943 Stephens High School will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Boiler Room Restaurant. For more information, call Elaine at 364-8336.
Church event
RUMFORD – Rumford First Baptist Church will play a CD by General Geodges Sada at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the church, located on the corner of Washington Street and Plymouth Avenue.
Sada was born into an Assyrian Christian family in northern Iraq and became a born again believer in 1986. All are welcome to hear his message.
Bridge party
RUMFORD – The Rumford Duplicate Bridge Club held its annual pizza party recently. There were five tables. The winners were: first, Jim and Debbie Stewart; second, Jean and Stan Sotman; third, Paula Humbert and Clara Roy; a tie for fourth, Anna and Woody Mercier with Donna and Ozzie Swett.
Film showing
RUMFORD – Friends of Rumford Library will offer a second classic film evening at l7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Another silent film starring Harold Lloyd, “The Sailor-Made Man,” will be shown. Movie-style refreshments will be provided. The film is free.
Trailblazers
MEXICO – Mexico Trailblazers will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, downstairs in the town hall. Consecutive meetings will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Memberships are due in September.
Grange supper
BETHEL – Alder River Grange will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the grange hall. The menu will include turkey with all the trimmings. Cost is adults, $6; ages under 13, $3.

Suicide awareness
PARIS – A Suicide Awareness Program, open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Paris Fire Department on Western Avenue.
The presentation is designed to heighten awareness about the incidence of suicide in Maine, provide knowledge about the risk factors for suicidal behaviors and the warning signs that youth-at-risk display, teach skills to intervene with suicidal youth and provide resources where suicidal people can get help.

Scout meeting
RUMFORD – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council will hold a parent information and registration meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Rumford Public Library. A second meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Andover Elementary School.
Parents can learn about Girl Scout activities in the community as well as volunteer options for adults. Volunteer troop leaders are needed.
