PORTLAND – Louise Greig, 96, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Portland. She was a resident of 75 State St. in Portland and formerly of Penobscot Street in Rumford.

She was born in Mexico, on Jan. 18, 1910, a daughter of Archie and Nora (Packard) Gleason. She graduated from Mexico High School and attended Farmington Normal School. She worked for Oxford Paper Co., then for W.T. Grant and then for many years she worked at Day’s Jewelry Store in Rumford as an office manager and later as a bookkeeper for her son Dave’s General store in Andover.

She was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church and was very active in the church choir and church committees. She was a also a member of the Mt. Zircon Chapter 142, OES, where she was a past matron. An avid and true Red Sox fan, she was one of the few to see them clinch the World Series twice. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, baking and reading.

She was married in Mexico, on Oct. 29, 1933, to the late David Greig who died in Rumford on March 15, 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Greig and his wife, Bethany, of Clinton, Conn., and Donald C Greig of San Marcos, Texas; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin Gleason and his wife, Irene of Apollo, Fla.

She was predeceased by a son, David Greig; and a grandson.
