AUBURN – The White Sox were eliminated from the Maine Men’s Senior Baseball League (over 30) playoffs Sunday with a third round 9-7 loss to the Fairfield Rockies. The Sox were the No. 1 seed entering the post-season tourney.

Jim Wacenske’s 2-run hit in the first inning provided the Pale Sox with a 2-0 lead. A third run scored on a double steal. The Rockies broke through in the third on RBI hits by Rick Moody and Ron Mayo, then exploded for 7 runs in the 7th. The big blow was a 3-run double by Randy Brodeur.

The Sox mounted a rally in the 8th. Mike Brennan’s 2-bagger drove in 2 runs. Greg Massey and Wacenske had RBI hits as the Sox closed the gap to 9-7. But that was the end of the scoring.

Repeat hitters for the winners were Moody, Mayo, Ryan Johnston, Dan Sharland and Brodeur (3). Wacenski finished with 3 hits for the Sox. Brennan and Mike Hlister banged 2 each.

Moody pitched 8 innings for the win, with Brodeau hurling the 9th for a save.

The Rockies travel to West Paris next week to face the Westies.
