LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls Women’s Club Planning Committee met recently at the home of President-Elect Lucille Lavoie to plan the calendar for the coming club year.
The Women’s Club, an active group of volunteers, is also a member of the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Women’s Legislative Council of Maine.
In addition to members from Livermore and Livermore Falls, there are members from Jay, Lewiston, Hebron, Minot, Wilton, Skowhegan and Winthrop.
The club locally supports the Tri-Town Ministerial Food Bank, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Androscoggin and Franklin County Red Cross, Spruce Mountain Ski Slope, Town Clock Fund, Literacy Volunteers, NAMI and Doctors without Borders.
Events for the upcoming year will begin with a yard and bake sale in co-operation with the Livermore-Livermore Falls Historical Society on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8 and 9; an installation meeting at the Carriage House Café on Thursday, Sept. 14, with a program on ESO, an individual reading program; and a knitting and cross-stitch needlework workshop on Thursday, Sept. 28. A booth at the Apple Pumpkin Festival in Livermore Falls on Saturday, Sept. 30, featuring homemade breads and a raffle, will round out the month’s activities.
A membership meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, at Ruth Gammon’s home, where Sarah Delaney will demonstrate making boxwood or hemlock trees for holiday decor or gift-giving.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27, 28 and 29, members will attend the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs fall conference and New England region annual conference at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.
Another needlework workshop, on gift bags and bone pillows for Togus, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9. On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the club will join with the Livermore-Livermore Falls Historical Society for the annual Christmas luncheon at the First Baptist Church, with music by Jerol Ellis.
