Lewiston – Davinci’s will get a new look, a larger space and outdoor seating when it moves around the corner to Storehouse No. 2 of the Bates Mill complex next spring.
Davinci’s, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last April, will move to the corner of Mill and Chestnut streets early next spring, according to owner Jules Patry, who added that with change comes the opportunity to do all the things he wanted to do the first time.
Plans for the new restaurant space include an exhibition kitchen with “a massive stone hearth” in the old loading dock area, which will be encased in glass, Patry said. The existing archways will also have glass.
Patrons “will be able to see from one side of the restaurant to the other,” according to Pat Maiorino, one of the developers and manager of Bates Mill LLC.
The restaurant will have the high ceilings and exposed beams similar to those at Davinci’s current space, but will have a separate area for an espresso bar and a gelato bar, Patry said. Plans also include a patio for outdoor seating adjacent to Fountain Park that will add to the “Old-World charm.”
Seating for the restaurant will increase from approximately 250 seats to 300, the owner said. He expects to add five new positions, from wait staff to management. The new space will have two function rooms.
The 10,000 square feet of new space now under construction “will occupy the whole bottom floor” of Mill No. 2 and storehouse No. 2, Patry said. The new parking pad, which opened last spring, will provide double the amount of parking he has now, and is immediate to the planned entrance.
When the change occurs next spring, Patry said, the old restaurant may be closed a week before the new one opens.
“Its been a great space,” Patry said of his location at Bates Mill, “but I’m excited with the direction the mill is going and when it is completed, it will be a good place to own and operate a business.”
