AUBURN – It was a grueling 3-game series for BT Pallet, champion of the National Division of the Lewiston Rec Men’s Softball League. Pallet was taking on Auburn Players League king, Major Automotive, for the “A” Twin City Championship at Pettengill Park.

In Game 1 Monday, it was 11-11 after the regulation 7 innings. Pallet struck for 8 runs in the top of the ninth but Major staged a rally of its own, 4 runs in the bottom of the frame, but fell short in dropping a 19-15 decision. Winning pitcher Scott Corriveau aided his cause wtih a 3-run home run. Heath Crocker belted a 2-run job. Chris Williamson stroked 2 round-trippers in a losing effort.

The Auburn champs got even in Game 2, 14-9. Williamson continued with the long ball, clouting 2 more homers. Steve Ricker earned the mound win. Corriveau, Bob Martin and Ed Morrisette all homered for BT.

That set up Wednesday’s championship contest. Williamson ripped a grand-slam homer in the first to provide the Automen with a 4-0 lead. Martin answered with a 2-run shot in the bottom of the frame. Auburn made it 5-2 in the third, but then came a big Pallet rally in the fourth. Martin led off with a solo homer. Later, with the bases loaded, Jason Parkin blasted a 4-bagger to provide Lewiston with a 7-5 lead.

BT added an insurance run in the fifth and Major got one back in the sixth but that was the end of the scoring and Lewiston took the crown with an 8-6 victory.

Other members of the Twin City championship team contributing to the title were Ron Tierney, Brian Harvey, Kenny Stevens, Dave Wagg, Jesse St. Laurent, Dan Dostie and Rob Bernier.
