LEWISTON – Police arrested a transient woman early Saturday after a witness allegedly saw her start a fire on the corner of the First Baptist Church on Lincoln Street.

That same witnesses called police and put the fire out with a garden hose, according to Lt. James Minkowsky.

A description of the culprit lead police to arrest Kimberly Miranda, 44, and charge her with arson, Minkowsky said. He was unaware of motive.

An investigation is under way. It was unknown how much damage, if any, was caused to the church at 39 Lincoln St.
